Four New Linux-Based iUnika Netbook Releases

iUnika has announced four new 130 Euro netbooks from their HQ in Spain, a price roughly equivalent to $180.

iUnika Gyy

The systems are a mere 1.5 lbs, around the size of the Vaio P, and were revealed at the Free Knowledge Foundation’s LibreMeeting. The free software conference was a fitting way to announce the netbooks, which have access to more than 5,000 free netbook applications thanks to Linux.

While specifics about the different models are still under wraps, promotional photos show an orange netbook with the word ‘Gyy’ on the back.

iUnika also focused on the iUnika Solar, a $220 system powered by the sun. The move towards sustainable netbook power is a futuristic one, though I wouldn’t hold my breath for a sub-$300 netbook to be more than mediocre.

Availability is still a mystery, but iUnika certainly has us hooked. Check back soon for more on the iUnika netbooks.
