Apple iBook is a Netbook in Disguise, Get One for $399.99

So while Apple has made no explicit claims that it is entering the netbook market, a device it released several years ago is actually a netbook in disguise. The Apple iBook G4 laptop, released in late 2003 and discontinued ever since, actually has a lot of similarity with netbooks. They both have low-performance processors, small screens and hard drive storage space, and relatively low prices.

The Apple iBook has a 12.1″ screen display, a 1.33GHz PowerPC G4 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and a 40 GB hard drive, specs similar to that of many netbooks. No doubt this machine is capable of doing all your everyday tasks like surfing the Web, checking e-mail, and working with simple documents.

While the weight of the iBook is greater than that of the average netbook, the iBook also comes equipped with a slot-loading DVD/CD-RW drive, something that most netbooks lack.

Buy.com is currently offering refurbished Apple iBook G4 laptops for $399.99, including shipping – seems like a pretty good deal. The warranty is a bit on the iffy side though – it’s only for 30 days. If you’re still interested, you can get yours here.
