Active Media Sabertooth S4 Series SSDs For Your ASUS Eee PC
ASUS netbooks from back in the day used relatively small SSDs, and if you got into netbooks early yours might is probably chock full of data by now. Luckily, Active Media Products’ new line of upgrade SSDs will offer better performance and more storage.
The new SSDs are part of the SaberTooth S4 series – an update to the SaberTooth S3 series – which will be compatible with early ASUS netbooks like the S101, 900, 900A, 901, and 1000 Eee PCs. Any netbook with mini PCIe card storage and a SATA-II interface should work fine.
The netbook SSDs come in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB varieties. They’re rumored to last longer due to a wear leveling algorithm and come with read speeds of up to 130 MB/second and writing of up to 50 MB/second.
It all sounds great so far, though in our experience SSDs with such high capacity can be costly, so do your research.

Active Media SSD Drives To Be Compatible With Selected ASUS Eee PC Netbooks
A couple months ago, Active Media launched some SSD drives for netbooks and now they’re taking their products to the next level. With the SaberTooth S3 lineup of storage drives, the company is offering faster drives for lower prices.
The SaberTooth SATA Mini PCle cards are tested at sequential reads of 95MBps for reads (marginally higher than that of previous models – 90) and 70MBps for writes (30% faster than that of previous models). The drives utlize a multi-channel controller, SATA-II 3Gbps interface, and wear-leveling algorithms.

The prices and capacities of Active Media’s SSDs are as follows: $69 for 16 GB, $89 for 32 GB, and $159 for 64 GB. These SSDs are compatible with the ASUS Eee PC 900, 900A, 901, and S101 model netbooks.

Active Media Netbook SSDs for HP Mini 1000 Released

Though the HP Mini 1000 is history, replaced by the snazzier HP Mini 110 netbook, SSD manufacturer Active Media apparently didn’t get the memo. It’s releasing a line of SSDs designed for the HP Mini 1000, coming in both 16 and 32 GB.
The modules are a slim 54 mm x 32 mm. They have a PATA ZIF connector, perfect for upgrading the HP Mini 1000. Read and write speeds are 82 MB/sec and 38 MB/sec, respectively.
The 16 GB SaberTooth Z SSD goes for $70 at Amazon, with its 32 GB brother on sale for $110.

Boost Netbook Storage Space With Fun USB Drives
Some people complain that netbooks don’t have enough storage space, and in many cases, consumers that purchase netbooks also rely on external USB drives for extra storage. Here are two unique USB flash drives that are not only fun, but also help out a good cause – the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). Check them out!
Back in June, Active Media released the WWF Penguin USB drive, which it claims is free of lead and mercury. The bodies of these penguins are made of PVC-free non-toxic silicone. The USBs come in either 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB capacities and are priced between $12.95 and $42.95 each.

For every purchase, 5% of the sale goes to the WWF and no matter how many penguin USB drives Active Media sells, the company is still planning on donating at least $25,000 to the cause.

Currently, since there have been rumors that penguins may not be popular with all consumers, Active Media has come out with polar bear flash drives. In addition to the capacities that the penguin USBs are available in, the polar bear USBs will also be available in 1 GB. Pricing for the 1 GB flash drive will be $9.95.
Active Media has tried its best to create a replica of an actual polar bear. The flash drive itself is made of rubber, but it also has a hair-y texture, aiming to replicate the fur on an actual polar bear. The polar bear USB is supposedly a 40:1 model.

Per unit donations to the World Wildlife Fund for the polar bear USB drive will be the same as those for the penguin USB drive – 5%.
