Averatec Misses The Boat With 1.6 GHz HS-105 Netbook

Averatec is throwing out a new netbook called the HS-105, but it looks like they didn’t get the memo that the Intel Atom N450 is the way to go. Their new machine runs a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 instead, making it look like a relic from an earlier time.

The machine isn’t terrible otherwise, running 2 GB of RAM and 160 GB/250 GB options for the hard drive. It has a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 pixel LCD screen, 1.3 megapixel webcam, and 945GSE GPU.

Upcoming Averatec Notebook May Be Powered by Android

Averatec has already entered the netbook market with the Averatec Buddy (released in 2008). It’s newest venture, which is to be a “merger of cell phone and PC technology,” is rumored to be a 10″ netbook powered by the Android operating system. The company CEO neither approves or denies rumors about the operating system of the new netbook, which is to be introduced into the market in either August or September of 2009.

Averatec’s overall goal is to sell products in three main market segments: 10″ netbooks, 12″ laptops, and all-in-one PCs.

Averatec To Enter Netbook Market This Year

Averatec Logo

Averatec is intending to enter the netbook industry in the near future, capitalizing on the successes netbooks have achieved in the midst of a plummeting PC market that shows little hopes of improving soon.

The company is known for its cheap ultraportables, and according to CEO Tae-Hyun Cho these abilities will help Averatec with netbooks.

“The netbook and ultra-portable lines are quite blurred and we want to bridge that gap.”

Gartner expects netbooks to be the only growing PC category this year, and Averatec’s entrance will make good use of this growth. Its plan is to put a next-gen netbook on the market by the second half of 2009, and earn consumers by improving the design and performance over current models. Of course, they also hope to do this while keeping their machines cheap.

It’s a tall order, and only time will determine Averatec’s success. If netbooks don’t work out for the company, it won’t feel it too hard – they’re also planning to deliver a new set of notebooks in 2009.
