ASUS Announces Three New Netbooks At CeBIT

Eee Keyboard PC

The Eee Keyboard PC, which we’ve seen hints of before, purports to offer the functionality of a desktop in a miniscule form. And ASUS isn’t the only one who thinks it’s exquisite – the Keyboard PC won the first prize in CeBIT’s PreView Awards.

The new ASUS device makes use of Ultra Wide Band Wireless connectivity to link to TVs and computer monitors, and offers a futuristic 5-inch ‘touch panel’ for control of the screen cursor. The whole concept is screaming ‘multitouch’, so I think we can expect that on the Eee Keyboard PC as well.

Other features include WLAN 802.11n network connectivity, a hi-quality speaker/microphone combo, Bluetooth 2.0, and a few USB ports.

Eee PC T91

The Eee PC T91 is the latest in a series of adaptable swivel-screen tablet netbooks on the market. It looks really cool, packing a 1024×600 pixel 8.9-inch screen and running the Intel Z520 Silverthorne Atom chipset with a standard 32 GB SSD. ASUS is also offering a “Disk Expander” memory card slot if you want to expand storage.

The TouchSuite software coming with the T91 uses multitouch for programs like FotoFun, where you can organize, edit, and flip through images using the touchscreen. Bonus features include built-in GPS, a TV tuner, Bluetooth, and 3G. We’re expecting a cost around $500 for the Eee PC T91.

The third netbook is the ASUS Eee PC 1008HA, which comes in at one inch thick and a mere 1.1 kg. One particular feature highlighted by ASUS is Eee Docking, an application bar that allows you to access a suite of software with a single click. Included in the suite is Eee Sharing, which can sync the 1008HA with other Eee PCs or computers to share info, even without access to the internet.

Other features include a keyboard at 92% standard size, instant Wi-Fi, a microphone, a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, WiMAX, and802.11b/g/n.

ASUS Delivers New Eee PC T91 Tablet Netbook

The latest in fantastic new netbooks has arrived in the form of the 8.9-inch touchscreen Eee PC T91, a tablet PC with classy features to spare.

Eee PC T91

Its swiveling touchscreen is a nice touch. Some have suggested that tablet netbooks are to be the latest fad in the industry, with recent releases like the T91 or Gigabyte TouchNote cited as proof.

The new Eee PC will run Windows XP and run an Intel Atom. This standard setup is altered slightly by using the 1.33 GHz Atom, presumably to save energy.

ASUS has developed its own software for touch sensitivity and is using that for the Eee PC T91 netbook. Other features include a TV tuner, GPS, and an FM radio. The Dell Mini 10 will also feature a TV tuner among other features, so perhaps that is another coming trend.

The machine should cost about $500. It’s costlier than other Eee PC netbooks, but makes up for it with a set of features that will appeal to a wide variety of consumers.

CES: The Future Of MSI

PCWorld recently published an interview with Andy Tung, MSI Computer’s VP of sales. The subjects? The future of MSI, the new technology it will use, and the company’s plans for 2009.

One big topic was the dual-core Intel Atom CPU – an update of the single-core version we’ve seen so much in the netbooks of 2008. Thankfully, Tung says the Atom “is not in MSI’s future.” He believes using a dual-core Atom would drive prices up past $500, which isn’t the strongest category for MSI.

According to him Intel seems to understand this. For now, most netbooks will be sticking with the 1.6 GHz Intel  Atom N270 or the 1.33 GHz Intel Atom Z530.

Another subject was the MSI Wind U115 Hybrid, the interesting new netbook that houses both an SSD and a HDD. Bouncing off this topic, PCWorld wondered – what technology is next?

Tung says it’s touchscreens. Apparently MSI has been messing around with a touchscreen prototype, and once the multi-touch Windows 7 is out this could mean some interesting things. They aren’t attempting to replicate the swivel screen ASUS tablet, the Eee PC T91 – they want to take their own interpretation on the subject.

We couldn’t believe our eyes a few days ago when we found an image of the MSI Wind U115 at CES with a display mentioning 9-cell batteries. It seems this was no mistake. Andy Tung says that “The U115 netbook will not only have 3-cell and 6-cell batteries, but we’ll be shipping a 9-cell battery that will easily get you over 12 hours on a single charge.”

Wow. Check back soon for the latest on netbooks and CES 2009.

CES: The New Tablet-Style Eee PC T91

ASUS demonstrated the new Eee PC T91 today, an 8.9-inch touch-sensitive netbook that works like a Tablet PC with its swiveling monitor.

ASUS Eee PC T91

According to ASUS CEO Jonney Shih, “It’s the superset of the original Tablet PC.” It will be able to act as a digital photo frame, GPS navigation system, and possibly a game console. CES 2009 has already been promising amazing things for future netbooks, and so these shouldn’t be out of the question.

ASUS also expanded the Eee Top line, which Shih calls an “Internet appliance” for the home. It has gesture navigation, soft-stylus handwriting recognition, and an Opera browser optimized for touch controls. It was shown using Windows XP.
