Dell Adds Fashionable Deanna Cheuk Inspiron Mini Netbook to Lineup

Dell’s updating their list of fashionably stylish netbooks again. The newest addition to the family is the limited edition Deanna Cheuk Inspiron Mini netbook. The netbook will have a 10.1″ screen display with 1024×600 resolution, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor, an Intel GMA 500 graphics chipset, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160 GB SATA hard drive, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, and HDMI output. It’ll also come with the Windows 7 Starter Edition OS and a 3-cell lithium ion battery.

There’ll only be 5250 units of the Deanna Cheuk netbook available, and they’ll each be individually numbered. They’ll be exclusively sold at Best Buy stores with a price tag of $379.99 – it’s no Black Friday deal, but it’s considerably cheaper than some other versions of the Dell Inspiron Mini netbooks. If you’re interested, be sure to get yours before they all sell out.

Netbook Makers Say Farewell to Intel Atom Z-Series

Intel Atom Z-Series

The Intel Atom Z series has been all but replaced by burlier chips like the Intel Atom N270 and N280. It was efficient but sliggish, and as a result only a few netbooks still run it.

DigiTimes is saying that Intel will soon stop taking orders for the chip from netbook makers, so it’s time to say our goodbyes.

Or is it? According to some rumors, the chip could live on in MIDs and smartphones, rather than netbooks.

Batteries In MSI U110 and U115 Will Run All Day

The upcoming MSI Wind U110 and U115 are expected to provide all-day battery life – a welcome break from the four and five hour batteries of weeks past. MSI will be using Intel’s Z5xx series Atom CPUs to do so.

The netbooks will have 10-inch displays and be capable of running full speed for eight to ten hours before needing to recharge. The processor choice is a break from the overused Atom chip seen in almost all other netbooks on the market.

The U110 and U115 are not yet officially announced but are expected to debut at CES this year.

More Announcements From MSI: U115, U120, and U300

MSI is one of the biggest netbook suppliers in the business and its Wind netbook is one of the most popular around. Laptop Magazine interviewed Andy Tung of MSI to see the company’s plans for CES 2009.

A new model is going to hit the market alongside the U100 Wind: the U120. This new machine is aimed at “more mature markets” – i.e., flashier design and higher cost. It sounds comparable to the recent Mini-9 updates or the Asus Eee 1002HA.

Expect WiMAX, and 3G for immensely easy connection on the new netbook. It should use a new Intel processor, a big deal considering the homogeneity of processors currently on the market: the Z530 instead of the Intel Atom.

Other announcements include the U300 which should feature a particularly thin and portable design as well as the U115 which will have a magnificent 10 hours of battery life.
