Alpha Testers of Jolicloud Netbook OS Can Share Computing Activities with Friends
Jolicloud, a custom-made Linux OS designed specifically for netbooks, has an emphasis on bridging the gap between web and desktop applications. It also heavily focuses on social activities and has the capability of sharing your computing activities (such as when you install an application) with your Jolicloud contacts.
The Jolicloud netbook OS is still in alpha testing, but recently, all existing Jolicloud users have been allowed 10 invites, which they can send out to their friends. If you’re interested in checking out the OS, start asking around. Maybe your friends can send you an invite.
Thin Client Cloud Computing And The Jolicloud Netbook OS
We’ve been eagerly anticipating Tariq Krim’s Jolicloud OS for months, and while it isn’t available just yet, Krim has some interesting things to say about the motivation for the OS in the meantime.
Krim, who founded Netvibes, said that the “thin client concept is “more feasible now than ever.” What this means is that netbooks, being easy to replace, have users that want to preserve their settings and credentials even as they switch between machines.
Based on Ubuntu, Jolicloud is still in alpha mode but raised $4.2 million in first round funding this July.
Recent availability of cheaper hardware and widespread wireless internet access has made cloud services all the more plausible. It will be exciting to see how this translates into extra features in Jolicloud.

New Delicious Jolicloud Screenshot Released
We heard about it a while back, and it hasn’t gone away – Jolicloud, the new Linux based OS for netbooks is rearing its head once more.
Tariq Krim, the Netvibes founder running the project, recently sent TechCrunch a screenshot of Jolicloud. Behold:

The screen shot shows a significantly cranked up version of previous demonstrations. Jolicloud will use large icons and eventually touchscreens to make netbooks ergonomic and natural for human-sized users, who often find the machines cramped.
And if you mention touchscreens to TechCrunch, the first thing to pop into their minds will be, of course, the CrunchPad. Will we get to see how JoliCloud works on their tablet netbook? Someone please say yes.

Jolicloud, the New Netbook OS
Tariq Krim, the former CEO of Netvibe, is set to release a Linux-based OS next year known as Jolicloud.

Though the names are similar, this new OS should be quite different from the Cloud OS, which we covered in a recent article. Cloud was intended to work alongside Windows; Jolicloud will be a direct download that replaces the pre-loaded operating system.
Jolicloud is rumored to look a lot like the iPhone system. The OS will support touch screens, making Raon’s Everrun Note a good candidate.
Check out the Jolicloud site; there isn’t much info there, but you can leave them your email to be part of a beta program.
