More Info On The Lenovo Thinkpad X100e Netbook

We’ve still got to wait until early January for the Lenovo Thinkpad X100e netbook, but luckily some more info has surfaced about the upcoming machine in the mean time.

The new Lenovo netbook will come with AMD’s Athlon Neo processor, lasts 5.1 hours on a single charge, and will sell for under $500.

This is relatively inexpensive, considering its other fantastic specs. The Thinkpad X100e netbook will rock an 11.6-inch HD display, GPS capability, a memory card reader, GbE port, and up to 320 GB of storage. It will come in red, black, or white. And don’t worry – Lenovo has kept its famous red Trackpoint alongside a traditional trackpad.

We’re betting on Windows 7 Starter Edition for the OS, as that seems to be the norm these days, but since Lenovo has specified that the netbook will have “business and home OS support” it seems reasonable to add the Business edition as well.

Lenovo Thinkpad X100e Netbook In Stores By 1/05/2010

ThinkpadToday thinks that the Thinkpad X200e netbook  – to be branded the X100e, for some reason – is on its way as early as January 5th 2010, borne with the tagline “Entry level ultra portable, the first ThinkPad of its size”. We’re skeptical about netbook rumors in general, but in this case Zol has delivered some leaked photos as evidence:

While the displayed samples have a white casing, ThinkPad Today says Lenovo is going to stick with black matte for the X100e.

Specs are unknown thus far but a setup has been proposed – the 1.4 GHz Intel Centrino 2 CULV CPU with GMA 4500 MHD graphics or a 1.6 GHz AMD Athlon Neo CPU with ATI Radeon HD3410. Regardless of the main components, the Thinkpad X100e should deliver a 12.1-inch WXGA screen with 1280 x 800 pixels, 3 GB of RAM, Gobi 3G and a variety of storage options. It’s possible that Lenovo will throw in an UltraBase docking station with an integrated optical drive as well.

They’ve set our bar high, so let’s hope this thing actually happens come January.

Lenovo Considers Business-Oriented Netbook

In May 2009, Lenovo is planning on releasing their Lenovo IdeaPad S20 netbook. This netbook will come with a 12.1″ display and run on the Intel Atom N280 processor. It will also come with a GN40 HD-capable chipset, InstantOn, and possibly 3G capabilities.

Lenovo currently produces IdeaPad netbooks but is considering producing ThinkPad netbooks in the near future. These netbooks would be largely targeted towards business use, rather than regular consumer use. These new netbooks may not run on Intel Atom processors but instead on higher performance processors, such as the Celeron or Core models.
