HP Pushing Out Updates To Mini-Note Line

Rumors are gathering. Apparently, HP has got another Mini-note in the mix. We don’t know how new or interesting it will be – it could be a pretty update, like the Viviene Tam Edition Mini 1000, or a new direction altogether.

The plan by HP is to deliver the Mini-Note 2150 in a 13.3-inch HP WWAN-capable version sometime around the beginning of June.

HP is also expected to launch an 11.6-inch Mini-Note using an Intel Atom processor.

Two Welcome Upgrades On The HP Mini 1000

This just in – HP has announced that its Mini 1000 netbook, its stylish new addition to the netbook market, can now be augmented with mobile broadband provided by AT&T or Verizon. We were pretty excited about the Mini 1000 in our December 2nd article, and this news is only making us happier.

3G has been rearing its head on new devices since it was included on Apple’s recent iPhone update. The massive sales of the new iPhone showed that, for those on the go, Internet that doesn’t require Wi-Fi is immensely useful. HP is surely hoping to cash in on that preference.

However, HP’s deal is a bit pricey. The 3G option will cost an additional $199, which makes me wince, but that figure doesn’t include some subsidies from the carriers. The other downside is that, for some reason, you can’t get both SSD and 3G loaded in your netbook. The Mini 1000 with WWAN forces you to use the HDD.

The cost is the only obvious downside, but don’t sigh and turn away just yet – another announcement from HP may put the bounce back in your step.

The HP is also due for a price cut! You can now get a new HP Mini 1000 for $40 less than the original price of $399. While it’s still not the cheapest on the market, the $359 HP Mini is a great bet. It sports an 8.9″ screen, the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB of space, a 3-cell battery and XP.

Behold Lenovo’s New IdeaPad

The IdeaPad S10e has been released and is prepared to stun consumers with some interesting new features.

Lenovo Ideapad S10

Firstly, it will rock an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator that “easily handles your image processing”, according to Lenovo. It’s also got Intel High Definition Audio, an interesting feature for the manufacturer to include. While the S10 is no Indamixx DJ machine, the HD Audio feature means the new netbook will be excellent for listening to music. It will also allow the user to play sound through separate audio channels simultaneously.

The netbook is slender and portable, weighing in at a mere 2.65 lbs. It’s also only an inch thin, so as Lenovo says “you can take it wherever your day takes you.”

A microphone and webcam are integrated into the interface of the netbook, as well as an ExpressCard slot for easy connection to WWAN. It will be Bluetooth-enabled for use with mobile phones and headsets.

The newest and most intriguing feature, however, is the new Lenovo security device. CSRD, or Constant Secure Remote Disable, offers an easy, user-centric security method that doesn’t require the intervention of any tech-experts or the police. With this amazing new technology you can prevent access to your files just by text messaging your netbook. I need say no more – this is undeniably awesome.

The S10 will run Windows XP, using the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom with 512 MB of RAM. Spec-wise, the Ideapad S10 isn’t the best netbook around, but the new features are definitely tempting.

Two New Netbook Announcements To Get Excited About

As part of a new recent trend towards accessibility and efficiency, Dell has announced that its Inspiron Mini-9 will be available with 3G broadband.

Dell Mini 9

CEO Michael Dell confirmed the company’s intentions to sign up more wireless providers for its new netbooks, though he did not specify when.

For a mere $125, Mini-9 netbooks in the United States will be set up to feature WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network). However, that’s not the best part: AT&T is offering a $120 rebate on it if you sign a two-year contract!

While exciting, the new offer is only going to be available on the newer, XP-running versions of the Mini-9.

The new announcements aren’t only coming from Dell; Taiwanese computer company Acer has some things to say as well. Acer, producer of the well known Acer Aspire One A110, had a big role in getting the netbook ball rolling in the tech industry.

Acer Aspire One

Acer’s Scott Lin announced that the netbooks of the company are expected to get bigger and cheaper in 2009. The new Aspire One will take on a 10″ form around February or March of the coming year, a departure from the earlier Aspire One which only measured in at 8.9 inches. Analysts have suggested this is a move to try to take up more space in the market which, though in a sense started by Acer, is now owned by the Dell Mini netbooks, the Eee PC, and MSI’s Wind.

As Black Friday draws closer, new netbook announcements seem to be coming out at light speed. We’re definitely pumped to see what else is coming soon.
